Bridging Cultures Through Tea

02 Nov 2024

At the premier event in global trade—the Canton Fair—we met Khaddad and Mohamed, clients from Mauritania. This chance encounter sparked a journey of collaboration filled with cultural exchange and innovation, with the goal of developing an automatic tea maker that captures the essence of Mauritania’s tea culture while adding modern convenience.

In Mauritania, tea is more than just a drink; it’s a central part of daily life. Their tea culture is unique—people traditionally drink nine cups a day, with three cups per meal, three times a day. Khaddad shared the details of the traditional brewing process with us: each tea serving is precisely 35 milliliters, and foam and tea are balanced in equal measure, as Mauritanians say, “No foam, no tea.” This traditional process takes 30-45 minutes, during which the tea maker must pour the tea repeatedly to create foam, and maintaining a clean setup is essential.

Understanding the need to balance tradition with efficiency, Khaddad envisioned an automatic tea maker that would maintain the foamy tea experience while simplifying the process and ensuring cleanliness. With this goal in mind, Khaddad hoped for a device that could honor cultural heritage while improving usability and efficiency.

After our initial meeting, we promptly shared Khaddad’s vision with our engineering team. Leveraging our keen insight into product culture and the market, we crafted two preliminary solutions aimed at preserving tradition while addressing user challenges. We then arranged a second meeting on October 30, 2024, to present the concepts and product designs to the client.

In the second meeting, we presented the product’s functions and design in detail. Khaddad was highly impressed, saying, “This is exactly what we wanted!” Through our discussions, we gained a deeper understanding of the cultural requirements and product expectations. This trust reinforced our confidence in helping the client achieve their product goals, bridging the gap between culture and innovation.

Our collaboration with our Mauritanian client reaffirmed our commitment to understanding and responding to client needs. Moving forward, we will continue to work alongside our global clients, developing high-quality products that perfectly combine culture and technology through innovative design to meet market demands.
