Challenge of Developing Ultra-thin Ceramic Shot Glasses

Project Background and Challenges

Recently, we became acquainted with a well-known art design studio from the United States. The client wanted to develop a unique shot glass characterized by ultra-thin ceramic material and exquisite embossed texture. Although the client had a creative concept, they lacked the technical and design capabilities to bring their idea to fruition. After searching for suppliers in China who could realize this idea, the client faced numerous setbacks, having approached over ten ceramic manufacturers without finding anyone who could help develop the product they envisioned. Ultimately, the client was introduced to us through a friend, and thus began this challenging and creative journey.

The client hoped that this shot glass would have a paper cup-like thin appearance and provide a surprising tactile experience through the material's texture. They requested that the thickness of the ceramic cup reach 1mm, which is an unprecedented challenge in the industry, as the thickness of ordinary ceramic products typically ranges from 5-8mm. Additionally, the client wanted to add intricate embossed textures to the cup body, complicating the manufacturing process further. Due to the high technical difficulty, most suppliers were unable to meet this demand. However, we have been rooted in the ceramic industry for 23 years, accumulating rich industry experience and professional capabilities, and we are confident and determined to help the client realize and create value for this project.

Step 1: Deeply Understand Client Needs

We first communicated with the client via video conference to fully understand their needs and creative vision. During detailed discussions, we confirmed the following requirements:

1. The cup needs to be small and exquisite, resembling a disposable paper cup, but with the texture of high-end ceramics.

2. The cup body should feature fine embossed textures to enhance tactile and visual effects.

3. The thickness of the cup must reach approximately 1mm, extremely thin, with high craftsmanship requirements.

Step 2: Collaborative Development, Tailored Solutions

After the initial meeting, our team engaged in internal discussions with the product development and design departments to assess the feasibility of the client's needs and formulate a complete implementation plan.

In subsequent meetings with the client, we proposed a professional development process:

1. 3D Design Service - Transforming the client's concept into detailed 3D designs for client confirmation.

2. Precision Mold Making - After design confirmation, custom molds are created, and samples are produced.

3. The thickness of the cup must reach approximately 1mm, extremely thin, with high craftsmanship requirements.

Step 3: Rapid Execution and Flexible Adjustment

After the client confirmed the plan, our design team quickly took action, completing the initial draft 3D design within two days based on the client's concept. After two minor adjustments, the final design was confirmed by the client, who expressed high satisfaction with our rapid response and professional level.

Next, we entered the mold making and sample production phase. We employed the most advanced machine carving technology to finely depict the embossed textures and ensure the product thickness reached 1mm. Throughout the process, we updated the client on progress in real-time through images and videos, maintaining transparent communication to ensure the client was involved at every step.

The final product not only fully met the client's requirements but also exceeded their expectations.
